This fact sheet is based on a participatory research project – Pop-Part – conducted in ten working-class neighborhoods in Île-de-France from 2017 to 2021 by a team of social science researchers, some fifteen youth professionals and one hundred and twenty young residents of working-class neighborhoods. What does social and political commitment mean to young people in working-class neighborhoods? Is it different from that of previous generations, or from that of young people in general? What values and motivations motivate them to get involved? Do their perceptions of inequality and discrimination make them unique?
