What does it mean to be a “neighborhood youth”? What social, urban and family experiences does it entail, and what visions of one’s place in society and the local area does it conjure up? These are the questions at the heart of this book, the fruit of participatory research carried out in ten towns and neighborhoods in the Paris region, involving 120 young people, fifteen youth professionals and fifteen researchers from a variety of disciplines. The abécédaire format, in which the diverse voices of each person enter into discussion, makes it possible to navigate, using words, between territories, views, experiences and points of view. The analyses proposed, starting from the players involved, often contradict common-sense representations, or at least make them more complex.
