The pen of journalist Javier Hernández Chelico introduces the book and synthesizes the uninterrupted history of Tianguis Saturdays, from 1980 to the “pandemic stage” in 2020. Subsequently, we situate the Tianguis Cultural del Chopo as one of the countercultural spaces in Mexico City, recalling its relationship with other processes and alternative spaces in the city. At the same time, we propose a spatial approach to the history of the street market, detailing its socio-spatial changes from the memories of different choperos and choperas. In addition, we propose a novel reflection on the future of the Tianguis in the digital era. Finally, the book closes with two texts written by Leslie Medina and Tercero Díaz who, from rock and anarcho-punk perspectives, invite us to squat new streets of the city to honor the struggle of the young people who since 1980 appropriated the sidewalk and gave life to the Tianguis Cultural del Chopo.
