What does Montreal – cultural metropolis, festival city, student city – have in store for young people after dark? What do young people do at night? What does this space-time mean to them? How do services, events, urban planning, police surveillance, regulation and social norms influence their nocturnal practices? How do young Montrealers experience the night? In order to find answers to these questions and, ultimately, to ensure that the nocturnal experience of young Montrealers corresponds to their aspirations, desires and needs, it is important to shed light on the multiple considerations at the crossroads of the youth/city/night triptych. The aim of this research is to document the practices of young people in public spaces in Montreal, Hanoi, Mexico City and Paris.
